Despite dire predictions, NAB 2009 felt like a success and this edition brings you a round-up of most of the larger company announcements made at the show. For information released prior to the event, please see our March and February preview editions. Visitor numbers were down around 30% from the highs of previous years, but the mood was positive, and there were plenty of impressive demonstrations of 3D and mobile TV to be seen. There were also some great workflow solutions, from camera to editing to delivery. Plus, as ever, the Japanese gave us an inspired vision of the future. Last year it was Super Hi-Vision from NHK, and this year the government-backed NiCT (National Institute of Information and Communications Technology) treated us to demonstrations of holographic images, 3D sound, and 3D images, the surface of which you can actually 'feel' through a stylus and hear the sound of your touch! The potential applications for these fledging technologies are varied, and we look forward to seeing them developed for our industry over the next couple of decades.
