Red Giant Software's Film Fix is Released for Quantel's Q Range (7/4/2005)

VDS, a leading developer of broadcast automation software, content design applications and plug-in products, announces the release of Red Giant Software's Film Fix on Quantel's Q range of products.

Film Fix is designed for documentary filmmakers and post production studios that need film and video restoration tools. Using Film Fix, Quantel users can remove dust and dirt particles, and stabilize footage originated on film and video resolution material transferred from film. The processing is nearly automatic and provides high-quality output.

"We are very pleased to introduce Film Fix to the Quantel movement," comments David-Ray Worthington, Director of Marketing and Product Development at VDS. "Having easy access to quality film restoration tools in context with the Quantel user interface brings on a whole new era to film restoration workflow."

Features

- Stabilize footage with a software-based 2D translation that is near real-time.
- Automatically eliminate severe non-linear inter-frame brightness fluctuations.
- Remove dust and sparkle defects using motion detection information.

The Film Fix technology was developed by Green Parrot Pictures' Dr. Anil, a pioneer in motion picture restoration with over 25 years of experience in the field. Dr. Kokaram's work includes the book "Motion Picture Restoration" and more than 60 papers on general video processing-40 of which are specifically on video and film restoration. Dr. Kokaram is a Senior Lecturer at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.

Film Fix utilizes FAME (Fast Accurate Motion Estimation), which processes pixel-accurate image data at different scales similar to the way the human eye views the world. These powerful, intelligent algorithms allow it to identify problems such as dust, dirt, and tearing despite complex motion in the footage. Once identified, these artifacts can be quickly and naturally removed.

"We are excited to offer high-end technology to Quantel customers giving them an option to restore damaged film directly within the Quantel environment. Film Fix's set of automated tools significantly streamlines user's workflow. No special skills or knowledge is required to repair archival or degraded footage," said Andrew Little, Partner at Red Giant Software.

Come see Film Fix in action at NAB 2005 in the Quantel booth SL1147 or VDS booth SL5300.
