New Cost-Effective Multi-format Professional Editor from Grass Valley (8/2/2007)
EDIUS SP SDI from Thomson Delivers Powerful Professional Features for Standard and High Definition
To meet the increasing demand from broadcasters and production professionals for cost-effective, high performance editing, Thomson (Euronext Paris: 18453; NYSE: TMS) has announced the Grass Valley(tm) EDIUS SP SDI. This new product uses PCI Express acceleration and an interface board to deliver uncompromised editing quality on a standard PC platform.
The base software for Grass Valley's EDIUS SP SDI is EDIUS Broadcast NLE version 4.0, which supports multiple layers and multiple formats in real time. Since being released in June 2006, EDIUS Broadcast NLE version 4.0 has under Grass Valley's umbrella made significant in-roads in high-end broadcast environments requiring realtime mixed format support for both tape-based and newer, non-tape forms of video recording and storage.
In the EDIUS SP SDI version, it is combined with a PCI Express card which provides hardware-based acceleration, and broadcast quality input and output interfaces using SDI interconnection for standard definition (SD-SDI). Embedded audio is supported by EDIUS SP SDI, and a breakout box is available for analog audio IO, component video I/O and frame accurate RS-422 VTR control.
"The EDIUS user interface is becoming widely recognised as putting real creative control into the hands of editors who find it instinctive and fast to use," said Marc Valentin, president of the Grass Valley business within Thomson. "What this new model offers is a very cost-effective access to that functionality, coupled with professional performance through its SDI inputs and outputs. It is a combination that our customers have asked for, and we are pleased to respond."
Pricing and Availability
EDIUS SP SDI will be available worldwide as a turnkey package with the dedicated hardware and software pre-installed in a high-performance HP workstation including a REV PRO drive for content interchange in Q1 2007 and will be priced at $12,999 (€10,000).
