Thomson Shows New Enhancements To Thomson Grass Valley HD Video Production Switcher Lines (7/5/2008)

At the NAB 2008 convention, Thomson will exhibit a number of new features and functionality now found on its popular Thomson Grass Valley(tm) Kalypso(tm) HD and Kayak(tm) HD video production switchers.

The new Kayak HD enhancements allow technical directors and vision mixers to handle more sources of different formats in a live production switcher than ever before, and now they can record and playback embedded audio with video from the switcher's built-in RAM Recorder.

The new Kalypso and Kayak HD enhancements support this strategy by enabling broadcasters and production professionals to attract an increased variety of clients (and more viewers) while producing more flexible and creative productions that can be distributed to a variety of distribution platforms.

A new SetDef option facilitates seamless up, down, or crossconverting output formats - on up to two outputs per M/E, allowing a variety of multicast opportunities in multiple formats! A new eDPM option with four channels of fully featured internal digital effects in the 8 RU frame expansion slot provides the advantages of an external DVE compositing multiple channels to re-enter on one or more M/E keyers. Up to 20 full functioning, internal DVEs can now be added to the Kayak HD production switcher.

Kayak HD's new MultiMix with Transition Offset allows separate transition types on keyers and backgrounds, and provides control of clips and effects as part of the transition, with the ability to slide the timing of each transition element with respect to the others. This greatly simplifies building flying-key transitions that otherwise would have been created as part of a complex effect.

Kalypso HD and Kalypso DUO have added Output Recursive effects to their Spektra advanced effects portfolio, including Montage, Motion Blur, Strobe, and Trails with Wind. Non-Additive and Full-Additive Mix are now standard with both models for more interesting variety in simple mix transitions.

The Thomson Grass Valley Kalypso HD production switcher is fully switchable between SD and HD operation, and accommodates multi-format production with integrated Gecko conversion options enabling users to handle all types of digital video productions.

The Thomson Grass Valley Kalypso Duo is an SD production switcher that can be easily converted to full HD operation via a simple software upgrade. There's no need to swap hardware or re-cable the frame, protecting a customer's initial investment.

The Thomson Grass Valley Kayak production switcher family is setting new records with sales over 2500 units by NAB this year! The Kayak is available in frames sizes of 4 and 8 RU, with 1 to 4.5 M/E channels.
