News Merging Unveils the ADRenaline Total ADR Solution (15/5/2008) The new ADR package from Swiss based Merging Technologies is described as the ultimate total solution for ADR, Foley and Foreign Dialog Replacement. The claim by Swiss based Merging Technologies is made after a long period of research with the conclusion that most studios looking for an ADR solution want a simple cost-effective all in one system that covers the entire requirements for recording dialog or Foley effects with the relevant video/film reference in perfect sync at any frame rate. It should have customizable audible and visual countdowns, wipes and even GPI/O's for triggering external cue lights etc. Most importantly, it should work the way the operator already does and not force them into new or less efficient working practices. The ADRenaline system from Merging is design to meet all these requirements and more... The system centres on a new ADR software development within a combined Pyramix DAW and VCube standard or high-definition video record/player. Installed in a single custom chassis with the option of GPI/O's, a dedicated custom keyboard and Merging's Isis edit controller and fader extension unit that effectively replaces the need for a separate mixing console. Claude Cellier of Merging explains, "In a world of growing numbers of TV channels and media content exchanging between countries, there are more and more freelance and dedicated ADR studios being built from scratch and they need a cost-effective complete solution for ADR and ADRenaline meets this requirement perfectly. This is one key target market for us, but we have also listened to the specialist ADR, Foley and Foreign Dialog Replacement studios that are looking to replace their old systems, which historically consisted of a separate recording medium, a mixing console, VT machines, an array of black boxes for audio and visual overlay countdowns and more boxes to synchronise everything together and triggering external machines and cueing lights. ADRenaline replaces all of this in one simple and fully integrated package. Additionally, it was important that we supported not only the classic AVI and Quicktime video files but also all the new video formats including MXF, IMX, AAF, DNxHD, DVCProHD as, like post production generally, the industry is switching into a tapeless environment very rapidly. It was also important that we did not try to dictate to this sector of the industry on how they should work. We therefore spent a total of two years in extensive research talking to the ADR, Foley and foreign dialog replacement studios around the world to ensure we fully understood all the different requirements and working practices used in different countries. ADRenaline can therefore be set-up in specific ways to conform to all the methodologies in use around the world. For example, we have a dedicated automated monitoring matrix built-in that allows the operator to configure how he, the artist, and director listen to the tracks for rehearse, record and review modes. We have different options and functionalities for the audible and visual countdowns and wipes and even allow the studio to include their own logo in the countdown graphic as is the tradition in many countries. This is a single easy set-up process that once done becomes the default for that particular system. The result is total ADR solution at a fraction of the cost of setting up an ADR studio using traditional separate equipment that also allows the operator to function the same way as he is accustomed to."
