News EVS Announces XT[2] Server Ability to Ingest Two Thomson Grass Valley LDK 8000 SportElite HD Cameras Simultaneously (29/9/2008) EVS Broadcast Equipment has announced that its XT[2] server is now able to ingest two Thomson Grass Valley LDK 8000 SportElite HD 2xSLSM cameras simultaneously. In recent months, the broadcast world has taken a definitive turn towards High Definition, today all major live sport events are produced in HD. In order to enhance the viewer's experience of live sport events, broadcast camera manufacturers have developed super motion HD cameras offering higher HD frame-rate recording capabilities, optimized for high quality slow motion playback. EVS has kept up with the HD revolution by offering the best hardware platforms and related software applications to integrate with all HD Super Motion cameras available on the market. Thomson Grass Valley LDK 8000 SportCam and SportElite, are two-speed Super Motion HD camera with 1080i and 720p recording capabilities. Two of these cameras can now be supported simultaneously by the XT[2] production server, which acts as the main platform for ingest, review, and replay of video. "Efficient use of production servers combined with the favorable priced two-speed LDK 8000 SportElite cameras provides a very cost-effective Super Slow Motion solution for many sport applications" said Marcel Koutstaal, Director of Product Management for Thomson Grass Valley. The XT[2] server is an instant-access, disk-based video server with up to 6 in-out channels capable of simultaneous recording and playback. This tapeless production server is the foundation of a fast, reliable, and comprehensive broadcasting solution: users get the combined benefits of shared access to multiple video feeds, customizable and searchable metadata, and integration with third-party editing and finishing environments. Finished sequences are transferred back to the XT[2] and can then be played out to broadcast or sent to other distribution methods. The XT[2] easily records, controls, and plays out media quickly and intelligently in live and near-Live environments, and allows multiple users to work simultaneously and instantaneously in network (from everywhere to anywhere), even while ingesting. The XT[2]'s native integration with all third-party tools drastically reduces wasted time. The flexibility of EVS' XT[2] server enables now two LDK 8000 SportCam/SportElite two-speed camera systems to be captured simultaneously at full and native HD resolution with instant tapeless super slow motion replays. In combination with its related software application such as Multicam LSM and IPDirector, operators can access and control any camera angles and best shots for replays, edit on the fly or transfer to post production aiming to create the best emotion during the action. Different possible configurations allow recording and controlling two HD SLSM 2x video feeds on a single XT[2] server with a lot of possibilities such as 2 HD SLSM cameras in ingest with two play-out channels or 2 HD 2-speed SLSM cameras and 1 HD camera in ingest with 1 play-out channel. This can be used in typical mobile production workflow: Audio/Video feeds are first captured on XT[2] server and controlled by different tools (EVS' LSM, EVS' IP Director...). While ingesting, content can already be played, clipped, edited and metadata added for further search. Media content is directly played out or can be transferred to storage servers. All media, since ingesting, are natively used in the appropriate codec's and can be edited during post production by third party tools (Avid, Final Cut Pro, CleanEdit...) without wasting time in transcoding. Media can also be streamed automatically to web servers allowing direct sending to new media receivers (phones, PDA, Pc's)
