News Thomson Introduces K2 Dyno Replay Controller for Fast-paced Sports and Live Event Environments (29/9/2008) Thomson (Euronext Paris: 18453; NYSE: TMS), the worldwide leader in video solutions today announced the Thomson Grass Valley(tm) K2 Dyno(tm) replay controller. The compact, cost-effective next-generation controller coupled with the new K2 Summit(tm) production client is designed to help sports producers and other professionals capture live events in crystal-clear HD resolutions and instantly play them out at variable speeds for critical analysis during fast-paced events. It is ideally suited for HD sports production trucks and shared storage production facilities. The new K2 Dyno replay controller features a highly intuitive user interface which includes the Thomson Grass Valley T-bar, switcher-quality buttons, a touch-screen LCD, plus high-speed GigE networking and is designed to work seamlessly with the new Thomson Grass Valley K2 Summit production client also introduced at IBC 2008. For larger operations, the controller can operate as a dedicated client within the IT-centric Thomson Grass Valley MediaFrame(tm) metadata architecture. This ability allows users to gain access to all of the information about a specific clip through the K2 Dyno replay controller for fast and easy recall. With the K2 Dyno replay controller, users can import and export MXF, QuickTime, and GXF (SMPTE 360M) files directly using any USB device. "For those needing to do fast-paced, instant replay and highlight reels, the K2 Dyno replay controller is indeed an evolution for the broadcast industry," said Jeff Rosica, Senior Vice President of Thomson's Broadcast & Professional Solutions within the Systems division. "Up until now, the only choice the industry had for high-quality, slow-motion, and instant replay were expensive proprietary systems. K2 Dyno, and K2 Summit HD/SD production client, will make slow-motion instant replay more accessible and affordable by more production truck operators, stadiums, and other facilities that, until now, could only have dreamed about the production benefits that K2 Dyno and K2 Summit will bring." In addition, while on location, users can use popular QuickTime-based NLEs such as Aurora Edit and EDIUS(r) from Thomson or Apple Final Cut Pro to edit the event as it is being recorded. At the end of the event, the user then can take footage and highlights back to the studio for final editing on a standard USB drive or a Thomson Grass Valley REV PRO disk. This process saves time and is very convenient for a producer or editor. As with all high-performance Thomson Grass Valley servers, including K2, it easily integrates into the Aurora family of ingest, browse, edit, and playout applications. Thomson is unique in supporting the entire media chain from high-definition content creation to multi-play services for home consumption. As broadcasters become broadercasters, Thomson is the right technology partner, as it will demonstrate at IBC 2008 in two booth locations - Hall 1, Stand D.11 and Hall 7, Stand F.31. Pricing and Availability The K2 Summit production client and the K2 Dyno replay controller will be demonstrated at IBC conference in September. The K2 Summit production client will begin shipping in Q4 2008. The K2 Summit/K2 Dyno package, including the K2 Summit production client with internal storage and the K2 Dyno replay controller starts at $89,900 (€76,500), based on system configuration.
