TAMUZ Announces OCM 404 W HD OLED powered quadruple rack monitor (11/3/2010)
TAMUZ is proud to announce it’s most recent ground breaking development. The world’s first OLED powered quadruple rack monitor to display SD, HD and graphic signals.
Our new monitor, OCM 404 W HD is mechanically a very compact device equipped with four 4.3 " (11 cm) wide screen OLED displays. With dimensions of only two rack units and a depth of approximately 2“ (48 mm) this monitor was constructed for the first time to house the OLED's within a monitor bridge.
This self-light-emitting displays have quite a number of advantages compared to common LCD technology, however they are still accompanied by higher costs.
The acronym „OLED“ stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode which describes generally displays that are comprised of organic materials that emit coloured light when stimulated by a low level voltage. Single cells (pixels) that are extremely small are built up as a cluster from red, green and blue light-emitting diodes on a carrier material. Configured in large numbers, such a display will generate almost every light colour possible while simultaneously emitting a high brightness consequently making OLED panels very well suited as a video screen.
Fundamental advantages of the OLED technology versus LCD are:
High brightness at extremely high contrast (>100.000:1)
Each of the four displays in the OCM 404 W HD has a resolution of 480x272 RGB pixels combined with a newly developed interface for analog and digital video signals. Every display section has a traditional analog composite input, as well as a SDI input, which accepts signals up to 3 Gbit/s in the format 1080p60/50, and a VGA input accepting computer signals up to SVGA resolution. The video input videos has loop-through functionality and connectors are built with 75 ohms BNC sockets.
The OCM 404 W HD is powered by an external 12V DC power supply. The power consumption of 36W nominal is extremely economical. OLED's consume power in a different fashion than that of LCD monitors. Its power requirements relate to the displayed video signal. A black screen needs no energy, as more white is present the energy requirement increases. Early critics of OLED technology cited the probable lifetime of the panel as problematic. Today, this factor has been eliminated from the discussion. The expected lifetime for 4.3“ displays is more than 30.000 hours -- three times that of competitive LCD technology used in rack monitors. Therefore, the longer life of OLED panels far offset the higher costs associated with an OLED purchase.
Wide screen displays, future-proof 3G-SDI inputs, 1080p60/50 format support and the most modern display technology make the TAMUZ OCM 404 W HD a high-performance monitor for the visualization of signal sources in all areas of the studio technology. The monitors are deliverable as of first quarter 2010 at a list price of 3.990 EUR net ($5.778 US local market).
