Grass Valley Introduces the EDIUS Workgroup Storage L5 Platform (16/3/2010)

For those professionals who require the ability to collaborate and share material with other editors using Grass Valley™ EDIUS® multi-format nonlinear editing (NLE) software, but can't afford the high cost of traditional storage systems, the company is introducing the EDIUS Workgroup Storage (EWGS) L5 platform.

Part of the growing EWGS product family, EWGS L5 provides a highly affordable shared storage solution that includes a 7TB RAID array in a compact 2 RU chassis, plus a 1 RU server with Gigabit Ethernet connections to EDIUS clients. The server and storage is connected via Fibre Chanel for high-speed file transfers.

“With the new EDIUS Workgroup Storage L5, Grass Valley is making it easy and affordable to add high-performance, shared storage to your EDIUS workgroup,” said Jeff Rosica, Senior Vice President of Grass Valley. “While many recognize the value of a file-based workflow, for a great number of EDIUS users it has been out of reach. With this new storage solution, that’s all about to change.”

EWGS L5 can be used within any environment where video clips and project data must be shared among multiple EDIUS users. This can occur where multiple editors are working on different aspects of a single project, editors are making different cuts of the same material for different edits and promotions, and more. EWGS L5 is also fully compatible with EDIUS Ingest (for creating an EDIUS ingest station), SimulEdit (allowing EDIUS clients to work on clips while they are still ingesting) and EDIUS XRE (turnkey edit station for bulk processing the final render and conform of EDIUS projects).

The new storage array supports up to 30 concurrent streams at 50 Mbps (e.g. DV50, AVC-Intra 50, XDCAM 422) or up to 10 streams at 150 Mbps (e.g. HQ, AVC-Intra 100) spread to clients with QoS bandwidth assignments. EWGS L5 provides a Gigabit Ethernet connection for each of the EDIUS workstations on the network.

Pricing and Availability

The new Grass Valley EWGS L5 storage for EDIUS workgroups will be available in May 2010, for a suggested price of $35,000; including server and RAID storage, and one Ingest license. Client licenses are available as option for $1,000 per seat.
