DVS Offers Multi-Camera Production with VENICE Video Server (31/8/2010)
DVS will present the latest capabilities of its video server at the 2010 IBC: Next to an extended channel-grouping feature VENICE offers dynamic playlists, real-time scaling as well as parallel playout of HD and SD videos.
At booth 7.E25 during this year's IBC, DVS will exhibit the upgraded feature set of its video server for professional broadcasting environments: VENICE presents itself as a future-proof solution for recording and playout in real-time and can be integrated seamlessly into any already existing environment thanks to its open system structure. The highlights of the current feature set include an extended multi-device mode, dynamic playlists, hardware-based real-time scaling as well as simulcast, the parallel playout of HD and SD videos.
VENICE supports a variety of formats and codecs typical to broadcasting such as AVC-Intra, DVCPRO HD, DNxHD(r) (8/10 bits) and XDCAM HD 422, thereby paving the way for smooth production processes. Equipped with a new channel-grouping feature, VENICE enables parallel recording of e.g. stereoscopic material as well as frame-accurate starting and playing out of up to four camera streams, one per system, which is proving to be extremely helpful, especially in multi-camera productions. Furthermore, several VENICE video servers can be combined with each other. The current multi-camera view offered by VENICE allows for simultaneous viewing and separate control of four channels - switching between different screen windows is not necessary.
DVS increases the flexibility of its video server with dynamic playlists: Even during playout, the clip sequence can still be changed and new clips can be added. This is possible in VENICE's own GUI and also via other automated protocols, e.g. VDCP. Moreover, VENICE enables immediate editing of video material from a started and not yet ended ingest - the "Play while Record" and "Transfer while Record" functions help broadcast editors working under enormous time pressure in live situations. For this reason, VENICE can exchange data with all established editing systems. The convenient feature Batchlist Recording supports importing of a previously created edit decision list, which until now was reserved for non-linear editing systems (NLE).
Another VENICE highlight during this year's IBC is real-time scaling: Working with a high-performance DVS video board developed just for VENICE, the video server scales various codecs and rasters during the playout process in real-time. This also saves a considerable amount of time in the broadcasting workflow.
