SGO announces Mistika support for the RED 5K EPIC camera and RED Rocket card (17/9/2010)
“Now that Mistika is integrating the RED Rocket card into their system, it will become even more powerful, taking full advantage of RED footage at the highest visual quality levels for both 2D and 3D work, supporting both the RED ONE 4k files, and the upcoming EPIC 5k files in a real time, high performance environment.” Ted Schilowitz, CEO of RED Digital Cinema.
SGO is delighted to disclose that as of IBC 2010, Mistika includes native support for the much-anticipated new RED Digital Cinema camera, EPIC and RED Rocket card. This makes Mistika the first complete finishing tool to provide such comprehensive support for the new 5k EPIC Camera and RED Rocket card.
Mistika has proved to be the perfect partner for projects filmed with RED over the past few years, providing direct native support of the REDCODE RAW file format resulting in transcoding and importing delays being eradicated. Post production using Mistika can start the instant the RED files are available. This continues to be true with Mistika's pioneering support of the EPIC camera. SGO UK’s Director of Sales and Operations, Geoff Mills affirms: “In addition to Mistika's highly optimised processes, which already allow real-time RED workflows, without the need for additional hardware, the system will also support the RED ROCKET card in order to continue to provide real time solutions at even higher resolutions.”
Ted Schilowitz, CEO of RED Digital Cinema states: “Mistika is a sophisticated DI and Finishing tool that is well suited for working with REDCODE RAW natively. In our testing and review, it shows impressive capabilities, especially in the 3D realm, that make working with RED's high resolution Raw footage in 3D highly streamlined and logical.” Ted continues: “Now that Mistika is integrating the RED Rocket card into their system, it will become even more powerful, taking full advantage of RED footage at the highest visual quality levels for both 2D and 3D work, supporting both the RED ONE 4k files, and the upcoming EPIC 5k files in a real time, high performance environment.”
The EPIC camera boasts a 5k RAW sensor, which can capture images at up to 120 frames per second (FPS) at 5k and up to 225 FPS at up to 2k resolutions. EPIC also has many intrinsic features that are especially suited for stereoscopic 3D projects including the ability to synchronise shutters and reverse the sensor scan to compensate for image flips caused by mirrored rigs. Clearly, these impressive statistics place a significant demand on the post production workflow in order that the full range of the EPIC camera’s ability can be harnessed without time consuming importing or transcoding processes.
